His grounding in the game came in Mississauga, where he first played cricket at school level. From there he moved through Canada's age-group sides, appearing for the Under-14, Under-16 and Under-19 teams on his way to senior selection. Before he was chosen for the national team, he gained experience in Sri Lanka, playing first-class and List A matches there. Few Canadian-developed players have taken that route before earning a place in the national side.
At international level his impact has so far been modest. As of May 2014, he had yet to make a notable mark in ODIs or T20 Internationals, and his place in the senior Canadian squad was intermittent rather than settled, with him moving in and out of the side.
