His first-class career began modestly. He made his Ranji Trophy debut for Delhi against Hyderabad in November 2018, aged 20, and sent down 35 overs in that match for a return of a single wicket. Rather than being held back by that quiet beginning, he kept improving and established himself as a regular in the Delhi side.
His pace also drew attention beyond domestic cricket. He worked as a net bowler for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, where his skiddy deliveries caught people's eye. In July 2021 he was given a further opportunity when he accompanied the Indian national team to Sri Lanka, again in the role of a net bowler.
The next step came at the 2022 IPL Mega Auction. Chennai Super Kings picked him up at his base price of 20 lakh, giving the Delhi quick the first IPL contract of his career.
