Yassar Cook is a South African cricketer who plays as an all-rounder. He comes from the Cape Province and belongs to a large crop of promising young players to emerge from his country in recent years.
His schooling took place at St Stithians, and his enthusiasm for cricket took hold early in life. As he developed, he worked his way upward through Gauteng's age-group and provincial structures, building his game step by step at each level.
The 2010/11 season marked a real step forward for him. At the Coke Week tournament he ended up as the second-highest run-scorer, a showing made more notable by the company he kept in that side, which included Quinton de Kock and Keaton Jennings. His run-making that season helped earn him a place in the Gauteng first-class team, and he made his debut at that level in March 2012.
Since that breakthrough, however, Cook has found it harder to leave his mark. His progress after his first-class debut has not matched the impact he would have hoped to make, and he is still looking to build on the early promise he showed as a batsman.
