Deepak Hooda, who comes from Rohtak, is a cricketer whose game rests on three pillars: he can bat in any position, he hits the ball with real power, and he sends down handy off-spin. He represented Baroda in the Ranji Trophy and was among the leading figures in India's Under 19 group in 2014. Hooda scored a hundred in his first appearance for Baroda, joining only one other player from the side to achieve that feat.

That debut century brought an IPL opportunity with the Rajasthan Royals in 2015, and his performances that year set up a big payday. His knack for hitting sixes saw him fetch 4.2 crores at the 2016 IPL auction, and he played a part in Sunrisers Hyderabad lifting the title that season.
His all-round value eventually opened the door to the India side. A call-up came in 2017 for a home T20I series against Sri Lanka, yet his first international appearance did not arrive until February 2022, in a home ODI series against West Indies. In June 2022 he struck a T20I century against Ireland, though his scoring was not especially brisk. He was named in India's squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup but saw little action, and after India were beaten by England in the semi-final, the selectors turned to fresh faces and his T20I openings shrank.
Inconsistency and limited chances have been persistent hurdles. A severe dip in form produced a poor 2023 IPL campaign in which he averaged 7.64 with the bat. He was kept on for the 2024 season but could not capitalise. Lucknow Super Giants released him before the mega auction, and CSK signed him for the 2025 IPL season, a franchise known for reviving careers.
