Anukul Roy

His path to international youth cricket included a setback. A stress-related problem in his ankle kept him out of both the Under-19 Challenger Trophy and the Asia Cup held in Kuala Lumpur. Impressive displays on a tour of England, however, persuaded Rahul Dravid to include him in the squad that travelled to New Zealand for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018. There, Roy shared top spot among the wicket-takers as India lifted the title, claiming 14 scalps across six matches at an average of 9.07. He also contributed with the bat when it mattered, producing a useful short innings under pressure in the semifinal against Pakistan.

In the IPL, Mumbai Indians signed him in 2018, though chances were limited there. It was at Kolkata Knight Riders that he started to establish a role, valued mainly for his ability to keep scoring in check. Through the 2025 season his IPL record stood at 11 matches and 6 wickets. With Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy handling the main spin duties at the franchise, Roy has tended to be deployed as a tactical selection rather than a regular in the side.

For Jharkhand, he has been a steady presence. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy he has picked up important wickets while offering control through the middle overs, and in the Ranji Trophy he has shown growth as a reliable lower-order batter able to add runs and build partnerships. Recent domestic seasons have shown increased composure with the bat, strengthening the case that he is a true all-rounder. The next step for him at franchise level is to become more of a wicket-taking threat, or a more dependable finisher, to secure a more regular place in the XI.
