Suchith is a left-arm spinner from Karnataka whose rise began in an unusual order: he was playing in the Indian Premier League before he had appeared in a single first-class match. Talent scouts working for Mumbai Indians noticed him during the Karnataka Premier League and brought him into their squad for the 2015 IPL season.
That first IPL campaign went well for both player and franchise. Suchith took 10 wickets across 13 matches, and Mumbai Indians went on to claim the IPL trophy for the first time. The season gave his career real momentum.
His first-class debut came for Karnataka in a fixture against Bangladesh A, who were touring at the time. He made an immediate impression, claiming six wickets in the second innings and playing a central part in a Karnataka win.
Establishing a regular place in the Karnataka side proved harder. K Gowtham and Shreyas Gopal became the preferred spin options, which left Suchith on the bench for long stretches and moving in and out of the lineup. Even so, he tended to make himself useful whenever selected. He also showed he could contribute with the bat, hitting the quickest half-century of the 2016 Karnataka Premier League.
An opening appeared when Gowtham was called away to represent India A. Suchith took advantage and held on to his spot in the Karnataka team during the 2018 Ranji Trophy season.
