Nishant Sindhu grew up in a sporting household, as his father was a boxer at state level. As a boy, Sindhu hoped to follow the same path into boxing. That changed once he joined an academy run by Ashwani Kumar, who had played first-class cricket for Haryana, and it was there that cricket won him over.

His breakthrough came in the 2018-19 edition of the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy. He made his mark with both bat and ball, piling up 572 runs and claiming 23 wickets across the tournament. He also captained Haryana to victory over Jharkhand in the final, a run that brought him wider attention.
Sindhu then featured at the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, staged in the West Indies. Over 5 matches he collected 6 wickets and was regarded as one of the leading performers in his team.
The next step was franchise cricket. Ahead of the 2023 IPL season, CSK signed him for 60 lakh rupees.
